RIVERSIDE REFLECTION: my other love, part 2

OK, I know I didn't get many comments publicly about my last political piece, but I got enough email comments that I want to respond a little. First, did you all know that in North Carolina you cannot run as a third party or an independent? How crazy is that? Anyway, the question I want to address before leaving politics is how do we do this democracy thing without a party system? Simple.

The biggest issue is financing. The solution is simple: all campaign money's must come from the Fed. All donations must be made to the Fed and are distributed equally between all qualified candidates. Now the playing field is leveled. In the primary election all the candidates are listed and all of us can vote for any of them. The top two vote getters move on to the general election. Again moneys are raised through the Fed and distributed between the two finalists. The person who gets the most votes wins. It is that simple. The root of the problem is money. One overarching financier will assure all have equal opportunities. By the way, this will work at all levels, not just Fed.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents. I know 2 cents isn't worth very much, but there it is.

eTwo problems with the federal govn't raising and spreading the money. First, who decides (a) who gets to be a "qualified" candidate? and (b) who decides the "qualifications" of a "qualified" candidate? Second, is the problem of yet again increased bureaucracy.

Those are legitimate problems. I say we invite anyone who wants to run for any particular office (state, local, federal) to a last person standing death match. Whoever's left gets to lead us. What do you think?

First, we already have "qualifications"

Citizenship
Age
Enough names on the petition

Regarding the second, there is no way to have government without increased bureaucracy. We are a nation of bureaucracy...this is inherent with every form of government...it will continue to grow to continue to support itself and the everexpanding needs of an ever increasing population... just no way around that

Yes, but if we have 500 candidates with the same money, who's going to tell us to vote for which one? I was just noting that you said that all qualified candidates would get money. So, you're telling me that Gary Coleman ought to get as much money to run as the guy I always vote for (don't even bother asking who he is, as I'm not going to tell. Although, here's a hint: he's Greek and he's dead)?

Good ideas. With the way that Politics today, it's not who has you best interest, but who has more money in order to get on t.v the most or , in general, noticed. But almost everything in Politics are about $. We are country formed because of money.

This weekend we had a Youth Retreat. It was fun. It was at little Nisgsdbauv( spell check); same place at men's ministries. We had two teams( they split Andy and Me up!) and had challenges. Cress led the devotions over Ephesians 4, and how we should build each other up, instead of breaking down each other. He did good.

That's about all. How's everything with you?

P.S Have you thought of anything SPY youth could do to as a Missions trip to your Church? That would be nice.

Nick, I am open to whenever you all plan it. I just assumed they wouldn't want to do something until after NYC because of $$$. They know how to get ahold of me whenever they want to put something together.
